Borja works at the intersection of climate hazards, engineering, and adaptation and sustainability solutions. His research and teaching interests span areas of climate risks, coastal processes, and nature-based infrastructure. He develops this work in close partnership with academia and the public and private sectors to develop innovative, science-based frameworks that link climate risk reduction with environmental and economic goals. His work has informed new policy proposals to protect coastlines and coastal infrastructure.  At UCSC, he leads the Coastal Risk & Engineering Lab. For his work, he combines numerical modeling with statistical and data science methods. Dr. Reguero holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and Environmental Hydraulics, a M.S. in Coastal and Port Engineering, and a M.S. in Applied Economics.
